Music

Music was an important dimension at the pontifical court and influenced musical trends at the time. Music continues to thrive, with the National Music School and the Lyrical Regional Orchestra, which has worked with the greatest voices and conductors of our time. Jazz is alive and well, actively sponsored by the Ajmi with weekly classes and concerts.
Many dynamic local associations offer new perspectives and highly popular yearly festivals of many kinds.

Dance

Dance, though more recent, has also placed Avignon on the cultural map. Dance is a very vigorous part of the Avignon Festival and is also the focus of a yearly winter festival known as Les Hivernales, now on a European scale. The Avignon School of Dance trains students from throughout France.
